Name upon Name by our super Sheena Wilkinson was featured on Ireland AM this morning during their roundup of brilliant books for kids going back to school as part of the TV3 Book Club.
Aoife Murray of Children’s Books Ireland selected three of her favourites – Danger is Still Everywhere by David O’Doherty and Chris Judge for 8-10, Name upon Name for 10-12 and Demon Road by Derek Landy for the 12+.
One of the presenters points out that ‘it’s a lovely way to introduce your child to 1916 because come next year it’s going to be everywhere … it’s another of getting them to look at it outside of the school curriculum, outside of the history books’.
Presenter Mark Cagney also commented that ‘the book points out something that tends to be completely forgotten … there were 50,000 Irishmen who effectively went and fought for the enemy because they thought it would be better for Ireland
This book, apart from being a bloody good read, will feed very nicely into whatever coursework kids will be doing next year.’
Thanks Mark! We certainly agree.
